Malawi Mission Attends Egypt - Zambian Business Forum in Cairo

14 February 2024 : Malawi & Egypt News

First Secretary Economic Cooperation (FSE) Mrs. Hilda Kuweruza represented the Mission at the second edition of the Egyptian - Zambian Business Day at the Helnan Landmark Hotel in Cairo on 28th January 2024, following invitation by the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Egypt. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen economic ties between Zambia and Egypt through fostering collaboration and exploring new avenues for mutual growth and development. The forum was organized by the Egyptian-African Businessmen Association (EABA), Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Egypt and the Zambian Muchinga Province.

Speakers during the meeting stressed the importance of the event in strengthening economic relations between the two countries.  The Zambian Embassy acknowledged that the event constitutes a unique platform to enhance mutual understanding and enhance cooperation including infrastructure development and investment promotion. Presentations on investment and business opportunities in Zambia and Egypt and a detailed presentation focusing on investment opportunities in Muchinga Province were made. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion and Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Government (B2G) meetings.

EABA is a strategic partner in the promotion of trade and investment. Engaging further with EABA can help in solidifying the existing partnership between Egypt and Malawi. Through the meeting, the Mission was made aware of the existence of EABA focal persons in African countries.   Such focal person does not exist in Malawi. This knowledge will therefore help the Mission in facilitating the appointment of a focal person who will be presenting Malawi’s interest at EABA. The Mission was also made aware of the ‘From Africa to Africa’ (FATA) platform which is yet to be launched by EABA. FATA platform will be the first large databank of information in the area of trade and investment and will develop trade and investment by connecting the private sector with information.  It is expected that the Malawi Mission in Cairo draws lessons from this meeting and engage further with EABA on the possibility of holding similar functions as it was the case during the 3rd Intra-African Trade Fair which was hosted by Egypt in November 2023 where Minister of Trade and Industry was in attendance. The Mission will also follow up FATA developments and take the necessary steps to ensure that Malawi is part of it.
