Upon invitation by the Director General of the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture Engineer Soheir Mahmoud Elhefni, the Ambassador Her Excellency Catherine Kunje visited the headquarters of the organization for bilateral talk.
Welcoming the ambassador, Engineer Elhefn appreciated her Excellency’s humbling spirit to visit the organization. “Our organization The Egyptian International Center of the Agriculture (EICA) was established in 1965 within the system of the Agricultural Foreign Relations Department at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to carry out the crucial role of transferring expertise and technology in agriculture.” She said
The director further said that through its training programmes offered jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, EICA has provided scientific and practical experience to help training successfully the professional cadres of Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
The organization has three set up programs, principal, regular and specific.
The Principal training (which is shelved for a while) is sponsored by government where the Egyptian government provides the training, meals and accommodation while the participants buy their own air tickets. As for the regular and specific programs these are trainings which are tailor made and are offered in collaboration with other entities like the recent one
Besides its flagship activity, its regular courses, EICA organizes training programs in cooperation with Arab and International Organizations interested in the agricultural development such as The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) , the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Japanese Agency for international Cooperation (JICA), The Arab League (ALO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the African Organization of the Asian Development (AARDO), the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and others one of which two Malawians participated recently. 72 Malawians have benefitted from this programme so far since its establishment.
In her remarks, Her Excellency appreciated the gesture by the Egyptian government through EICA for the cordial relationship that exists between the two countries and for offering Malawi government such opportunities and training in the agriculture field and Malawi being an agro-based economy.
The Ambassador further extended Malawi’s appreciation for the recent two personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture who participated in the Integrated Pest Management Training Course organized by organization and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EADP) from 15th to 27th February, 2025.
The Mission continues to further engage different stakeholders in the host and accredited countries through bilateral collaboration for mutual benefits of all.
